Ohlinger earns second-straight MW Offensive Player the Week honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State's Lauren Ohlinger has been named the Mountain West Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 13 as announced by the conference office on Monday. The junior outside hitter led Boise State to its third-straight tournament title this past weekend as the Broncos won the Sacramento State Invitational in Sacramento, Calif. This is her second-straight player of the week accolade and third of her career.

Ohlinger and the Broncos rolled past Pacific (3-0), CSUN (3-0) and Sacramento State (3-0) to extend their win streak to six and improve to 8-1 overall on the year. 

She was named to her third all-tournament team after recording a team-high 44 kills, two service aces, 24 digs, eight block assists and team-best 50 points. She  averaged a team-high 4.4 kills, 0.2 service aces, 0.8 blocks and team-best 5.0 points per set. 

Against Pacific, Ohlinger recorded a then-season-high .343 hitting percentage with 13 kills to go with one service  ace and four block assists for 16.0 points. 

In the win versus Pacific, she scored two (both kills) of the final four points in the first set as the Broncos rallied from five down to win the set. With Boise State trailing 5-8 in set two, Ohlinger tallied two kills and two block assists in a 9-0 run that put the Broncos up 14-8, they never trailed again in the set.

In the victory over CSUN, Ohlinger recorded a double-double on a team-high 16 kills and 13 digs to go with two block assists for a team-best (tied) 17 points. 

She had five kills and two block assists in the decisive fourth set in which Boise State rallied from 24-21 down to win. She recorded a kill that made it 24-22 CSUN, then served the final four points for the win. 

In Saturday's win over Sacramento State for the tournament title, Ohlinger was the only Bronco in double-figure kills with a team-high 17 kills while hitting a season-high .419 percent. She also had one service ace and two block assists for a team-best 17 points.

With the Broncos up 18-17 in the first, Ohlinger had five kills in Boise State's final seven points to secure the win. 

Ohlinger and the Broncos will host No. 20 Utah Monday afternoon in Bronco Gym at 3:30 p.m., then host the Boise State Classic this Thursday through Saturday featuring Santa Clara and Oregon State.
