Garus Secures 300th Career in Home Opener Sweep

BOISE, Idaho – Head coach Shawn Garus secured his 300th career win in a home-opening 3-0 sweep against North Dakota State. 

After 24 years, Boise State volleyball played its first match in ExtraMile Arena to kick-off the annual Boise State Classic.

The Broncos (2-2) raced out with a 10-5 lead against the Bison (2-1). Sydney Dreves chipped in five kills and Kendall Hastings recorded two blocks to keep the Broncos on top for a commanding set one win (25-16). 

The Blue and Orange started set two trailing the Bison, but continued their momentum and tied at 6-6 with a kill from Azlynn Tittmann. Boise State continued to dominate with 13 kills and 13 digs to secure set two 25-20. 

Boise State traded points early in set three before the Broncos seized control at 8-7. The Blue and Orange notched 10 kills, 10 assists and eight digs to create an eight-point advantage. Dreves slammed the door 25-16 with her 12th kill and final point of the night. 

Top Broncos 

  • Sydney Dreves led the team in kills for the fourth time this season and tied her season-high with 12. Additionally, she tallied a team-high of points scored (15.5) and service aces (2). 

  • Kendall Hastings posted a team-high in blocks (2). 

  • Tehya Maeva led the team in assists (18) and digs (10) to notch her first career double-double. 
     

Notables 

  • Head coach Shawn Garus posted his 300th career win at Boise State.

  • Tonight's home opener marks the first time Boise State volleyball has played in ExtraMile Arena since 2002. 

  • Freshman Azlynn Tittmann posted eight kills. 

  • Tehya Maeva became the first Bronco of the year to tally a double-double. 

  • The Blue and Orange posted a .358 attack percentage, compared to the Bisons .144 percentage. 

  • The Broncos tallied 37 digs, while the Bison put up 33. 

  • Boise State leads the all-time series against North Dakota State 3-0.

"I think our team played really well tonight," head coach Shawn Garus said. "We came out with great intentions. We got a lot of production from a lot of different players, certainly some played fantastic, but nobody played poorly. That's a total team effort. It's a recipe that our team used to embrace, and our secret to success is production from a lot of people."
