Boise State’s Liborio earns third MW Freshman of the Week honor

Pedro Liborio has been named the conference FOW three of the four times it has been awarded in 2022.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State's Pedro Liborio has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week for the third time this season. The native of Portugal led the Broncos to a 2-1 record last weekend at home as they were edged by Montana 4-3, then regrouped to sweep a pair of matches on Sunday over Seattle U 4-0 and North Dakota 4-1, Boise State is now 4-4 on the year. Liborio has received three of the four freshmen of the week awards that the conference has given out in 2022.
 
Liborio went a combined 3-2 overall on the week while playing No. 1 singles where he went 1-1 and No. 3 doubles where he was 2-1 with teammate James Van Herzeele.  
 
In the match versus Montana, Liborio lost two hard fought contests, getting edged out in doubles 6-4 before falling in three sets in singles.
 
In the win Sunday morning over Seattle U, Liborio and Van Herzeele won decisively at No. 3 doubles by a 6-2 score to clinch the doubles point for the team. His singles match on court one was abandoned once the team victory was determined, he was leading 7-6(5), 1-0 at the time.
 
In the victory over North Dakota Sunday evening, he won both his contests. Liborio and Van Herzeele won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles to clinch the team doubles point once again for the Broncos. Liborio then clinched the team victory at No. 1 singles when he defeated his opponent in a tightly contested match 6-4, 7-5 to hand Boise State the 4-1 win.
 
Liborio and his teammates will be back in action this weekend when they travel to play two ITA Intermountain Region opponents at BYU on Friday followed by a match at Utah on Sunday.
