Pedro Liborio clinches the match victory with win at No. 1 singles.

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State men's tennis found itself in a battle Saturday night as the Broncos held off the Idaho State Bengals for a 4-3 instate victory in Boise. Freshman Pedro Liborio's straight-set win at No. 1 singles clinched the team victory for the Blue and Orange at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

"I thought overall we performed really well on a lot of courts and you know, hats off to Idaho State. Coach Free is doing a great job with that program and they came ready to play tonight," said Boise State Head Coach Beck Roghaar. "You know, that No. 1 doubles point was huge. So getting off the line and getting that point (doubles) under our belts was a big factor in the match.

"Once we got one point on the board, I thought our team did a good job of getting out there with some fast starts on a few courts and closing out matches when we were in the position to do so. We can't give anybody an inch these days, it was a good win for us."

The Broncos won the team doubles point on court one where Simon Arca Costas and Caden Moortgat won a tiebreaker 7-6(4) to defeat the nation's 37th-ranked tandem of Aleksandar Petrovic and Patrik Trhac. The win broke a 1-1 tie in doubles which included a 6-3 win on court three by Boise State's duo of Ryo Minakata and Michael Bott.

Arca Costas talked about what makes Caden and him a good doubles team, "I feel like we complement each other very well. He gives me energy when I need it and we are different players than when we play singles. I think that's the key for doubles, what I do good at he is not as good, and what he does well at I am not as strong at."

Moortgat on their win over the 37th-ranked doubles team, "Today was all about just keeping the game plan simple and playing the game we wanted to play. We were aggressive and we needed to be really purposeful and intentional on what we did. When it got close to the end, we really stepped up and played big on big points and took over the net when we needed to."

After Idaho State had tied the match at 1-1 recording the first singles victory of the day, Boise State regained the lead when Arca Costas downed Petrovic in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. It was his 65th career singles win.

Idaho State rallied to tie the score once more at 2-2 when Minakata put the Broncos back in front with a big 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles over Ege Cankus.

That set up Liborio for the match-clinching singles victory on court one where he beat Patrik Thrac in two sets 6-4, 6-3 giving the Blue and Orange a decisive 4-2 advantage.

Idaho State then closed it out winning the final singles match of the night in a set three 10-point tiebreaker to make the final score 4-3 Broncos.

The win was the second of the weekend for Boise State as it moved to 7-5 overall. The Broncos will wrap up this weekend's three-match homestand with one more contest on Sunday afternoon against Pacific.
