Broncos Win Season Opener over Idaho State

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's tennis opened the season with a solid 5-2 victory over instate-rival Idaho State (0-2) on Saturday in the first of two matches on the day at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

Trailing 1-0 heading into singles, the Broncos rallied behind the play of Simon Arca Costas and Sam Sippel, who wasted little time in dispatching their opponents to give the blue and orange a 2-1 advantage.

Arca Costas shut out Andreas Kramer at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0 to claim his 11th victory of the year. Sippel followed shortly after with a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 win on court one.

James Van Herzeele's No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-3 victory pulled Boise State within one of the team win. While Caden Moortgat clinched it for the Broncos when he downed Hiroki Fujita in two sets 6-4, 6-2.

Ryo Minakata closed out the match for the Broncos rallying from a set down to take his No. 5 singles contest in three 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

- Seeing their first career matches in a team dual for Boise State were Sam Sippel who played at No.1 doubles and singles, and John Chin, who played at No. 2 doubles.
