BOISE, Idaho – Boise State soccer clinched a spot in the 2023 Mountain West tournament after defeating Fresno State 2-1 at Boas Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos (8-2-6, 6-1-1 MW) found the first goal of the match when Carly Cross took a shot from the left wing, assisted by Kenzie MacMillan, that landed in the opposite side of the net in the 17th minute. MacMillan extended Boise State's lead to 2-0 after ripping a shot off a pass from Morgan Padour into the back of the net in the 28th minute.

The Blue and Orange kept their foot on the gas entering the second half, generating seven shots to the Bulldog's (2-8-6, 1-4-3 MW) four. Despite Fresno State scoring a goal in the 64th minute, Bronco goalkeeper Genevieve Crenshaw recorded a huge save to preserve the victory for the Broncos, marking head coach Jim Thomas' 111th win, tying for the most wins by a soccer head coach in Boise State history.

Quotables
  • "It feels good to be going back to the tournament," said head coach Jim Thomas. "We've worked really hard to correct something we did really wrong last year and I'm happy that these guys are going to get to experience the coolest thing in our season."
  • "Tying the most wins record just means I've been around the right people," said Thomas. "Every one of the staff members that have shared our story to all the players that have actually kicked the ball into the back of the goal or have kept it out, the wins are really for all of those people making it happen."
