Boise State Sweeps San Jose State on Senior Day

11/11/2023 2:21:00 PM | Women's Volleyball

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State volleyball closed the home slate with a sweep over the San Jose State Spartans, winning 25-19, 25-22, 25-17.
The Blue and Orange started the first two sets out fast and trailed only twice in the two periods combined. The third was close initially before the Broncos surged midway through to complete the sweep.
Paige Bartsch led the Broncos in set one with eight kills as Boise State raced out to a 12-3 lead and never trailed. The Blue and Orange hit .361 to SJSU's .188 percent.
Set two saw Boise State take a quick 12-5 advantage. After stretching the lead out to as many as eight points, the Broncos held off a late Spartans rally attempt before winning the frame by three at 25-22.
Leading by one in set three at 11-10, Boise State used an 8-1 run to seize control up 18-11. The Broncos closed it out for a 25-17 win to clinch the match.

Quotables

  • "I thought we played awesome," said junior outside hitter Paige Bartsch. "There was extra motivation being senior day. I know for me, it was extra motivation for sure. I'm very close with the seniors. It's always great playing in front of Bronco Nation. We sold out the gym, and that's about all we can ask for; it helps so much; it was great."
  • "This match was about controlling emotions," said head coach Shawn Garus. "I was a lot more concerned about our mental preparation and execution. I knew that San Jose (State) had a lot of really good athletes and were a very capable team; we needed to not let them get any momentum. We were really emotional dealing with senior festivities, and the seniors wanted it to be perfect. I'm glad that the girls managed that well and played a solid, consistent match, start to finish."

  • Bartsch led the team with 15 kills, seven digs, four block assists and 17 points.
