WHAT'S NEXT: Coming off its first loss of the season, Boise State men's basketball begins its run at the ESPN Events Invitational on Thursday night against Virginia Tech. Tipoff from the State Farm Center is at 6 p.m. MT on ESPNU, while the game will be broadcast on the radio at KBOI 670 AM.
LAST TIME OUT: The Broncos lost their first road game of the season – an 85-68 affair at Clemson – this past Sunday. Boise State went into the lockerroom down three points at halftime, but the Tigers were able to control the glass and shot over 50% from beyond the arc to pull away for the win. Chibuzo Agbo led the Broncos with 18 points while Cam Martin had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
BACK-TO-BACK ACC OPPONENTS: For the first time in program history Boise State will play opponents from the ACC in back-to-back games. The Broncos are seeking their first win over current members of the conference and trail the all-time series 0-5. Boise State has registered multiple wins over Power-5 opponents in each of the past two seasons.
HISTORY OF SUCCESS AT MTEs: Boise State is 14-12 at major, early-season MTEs (multiple team events) under head coach Leon Rice, and have won multiple games in four of their last five appearances at MTEs. This is Boise State's first appearance at the ESPN Events Invitational – it was originally scheduled to compete at the tournament in 2020 before the event was canceled due to COVID-19.
TOUGH STRETCH: The Broncos are in the midst of a stretch of at least five games against teams currently ranked in the top 100 of KenPom. Boise State has previously played San Francisco (82nd) and Clemson (42nd) while the Hokies are ranked 55th. All eight teams at the tournament are currently ranked in the top 100 of KenPom and the Broncos will play Saint Mary's (76th) on Dec. 1 – their first game following the tournament.
