11/30/2023 10:04:00 AM | Men's Basketball
WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State men's basketball continues a stretch of seven-straight games against KenPom top 100 teams this week. The Broncos will play Saint Mary's in a neutral-site game at the Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Friday, Dec. 1, at 8:30 p.m. MT. The game will be televised by FS1 and available on the radio at KBOI 670AM.
LAST TIME OUT: The Broncos are coming off an 11-day road trip through the East Coast in which they went 1-3. All four games were against teams ranked in the top 100 by KenPom, including the first time Boise State has played back-to-back games against ACC programs.
BATTLE TESTED: Boise State's strength of schedule rating is the 12th-toughest nationally, according to KenPom. The Broncos are one of three schools to have played five KenPom top 85 teams (Eastern Washington and Texas Southern), and they are the only one of those three schools to have picked up wins in those games – they are 2-3 this season against KenPom top 85 teams.
MID-MAJOR WHO'S WHO: In addition to having already played Power-5 programs Clemson and Virginia Tech, Boise State has played some of the top mid-major programs in the country. The Broncos have picked up wins over San Francisco (WCC) and VCU (Atlantic-10) with a loss to Butler (Big East) to close out the ESPN Events Invitational.
CONTRIBUTION FROM THE BENCH: The largest improvement Boise State has seen to start the season has been the growth of its bench. According to KenPom the Broncos bench is averaging 30.2% of the team's minutes – the last Boise State team to have an average that high was the 2019-20 team. Bench player O'Mar Stanley is the team's third-leading scorer at 10.3 ppg.
INTO THE FIRE: The Broncos are in the midst of a stretch of at least seven games against teams currently ranked in the top 100 of KenPom. Boise State has previously played San Francisco (69th), Clemson (35th), Virginia Tech (65th), VCU (82nd) and Butler (56th) Saint Mary's (Dec. 1) and North Texas (Dec. 5) are 67th and 73rd, respectively.
