Boise State to Face Arizona in NCAA First Round

This is the Broncos’ 19th bid overall to the NCAA Tournament in program history.
BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's tennis will open the 2023 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship in Tucson, Ariz., against the 14th-ranked Arizona Wildcats on Friday, time is to be determined. It will be a unique opening round match in relation to the head coaches, featuring a battle between the Shields brothers, Luke – the older brother – versus Clancy, both of them are Boise State alumni.

This will be the Broncos' 19th appearance in the tournament in program history and the first since 2015.

The Broncos – in their first season under head coach Luke Shields – are fresh off the 2023 Mountain West Tournament Championship – the program's 17th conference tournament title all-time – in Las Vegas last week where they defeated the Utah State Aggies 4-2 for the championship on April 28 to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The Blue and Orange enter the national tournament with a 21-7 overall record while going 3-3 in conference play to finish tied for third place. The 21 wins also mark the 20th time that Boise State has recorded 20-plus wins in a season since 1980 and the first since the 2015-16 campaign. Â

Boise State has appeared in 18 NCAA Tournaments all-time with a record of 7-18. The top finish was in 1997 when the team reached the national quarterfinals.
