Arca Costas, Sippel and Bott all receive top-20 regional rankings.
PHOENIX – The Boise State men's tennis team finished the 2022-23 season ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate rankings for the Mountain Region, while three Broncos appeared in the singles and doubles rankings for the region.
Simon Arca Costas (fifth) and Sam Sippel (14th) were each among the 20-best singles players, while Arca Costas and Michael Bott were the sixth-best doubles tandem in the Mountain Region this past season. The ITA's rankings are calculated from win-loss record, strength of schedule, and the significance of each win and loss.Â
The ITA Mountain Region comprises 16 programs from the Big Sky, Mountain West, Pac-12, and West Coast Conferences. The 2023 Mountain West Champions were among six schools from the league ranked in the top 10.
Arca Costas ended the year with a singles record of 33-6 including a run in which he won a program-record 24-consecutive matches during the spring. The Spaniard closed the team dual regular season undefeated at 23-0, the top mark in Boise State history. His final 2022-23 singles record ranked third all-time for wins, and his win percentage of .846 placed fourth in the program.
Sippel posted a singles record of 18-10 in his first year as a Bronco, including a 6-5 mark at the No. 1 singles position in team dual matches.
Arca Costas and Bott went a combined 20-8 in doubles play during the team duals season and 21-9 overall on the year. Their win total tied for 12th in a season at Boise State.Â
