BOISE, Idaho – Luke Shields, Boise State Men's Tennis Head Coach, announced Friday the addition of Daniel Hangstefer as the program's new associate head coach.

Hangstefer brings a lot of experience with him to Boise State, having coached in the collegiate ranks for 14 years, 10 as a head coach. He spent the last five years as the head men's coach at the University of Idaho.

"Daniel has done an amazing job at Idaho and is a fantastic coach," Shields said. "He brings a lot of experience and professionalism to the job. We are thrilled to welcome him here to the Bronco family."

"I am excited to start a new chapter in my career at Boise State," said Hangstefer. "It is a great program, and I can't wait to get started. I would like to thank Luke and Beck (Roghaar) for giving me this opportunity."

Over the last three years, Hangstefer's Idaho teams won two Big Sky Conference regular season championships in 2021 (co) and 2022 and two Big Sky tournament titles to advance to the 2022 and 2023 NCAA Championship.

Hangstefer's teams at Idaho also excelled in the classroom, where they have been recognized as ITA All-Academic Teams for four straight years, including this past spring.

Before Idaho, Hangstefer was the men's and women's head coach at Ferris State University, an NCAA DII program in Big Rapids, Mich., for one season. His men's team won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships. The team finished 21-3 overall with a No. 17 national ranking.

He also coached the men's and women's teams at NCAA DII Metropolitan State University of Denver from 2013-2017. He was named the 2017 ITA South Central Region Women's Coach of the Year and a two-time RMAC Women's Co-Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2017.

Prior to Metropolitan State, Hangstefer was the assistant men's and women's coach at Midwestern State University, a NCAA DII school in Wichita Falls, Texas. While there, he was named the ITA South Central Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year in 2013.
