BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's tennis defeated Idaho State 4-3 in its season opener Thursday night at Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

A pair of victories on courts one and two secured the doubles points for the Broncos (1-0), giving them a 1-0 lead over the Bengals (1-2) heading into singles play.

Pauline Ernstberger and Shauna Heffernan recorded the first doubles victory over Idaho State's Stefanya Shalakhova and Asem Shoybek, 6-4. Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo collected the doubles point with a tiebreaker win over Sol O'Lideadha and Lola O'Lideadha, 7-6 (3).

Discenza started the Broncos off strong in singles with a dominant win over Shalakhova, 6-2, 6-0. Ernstberger followed not long after, recording the second singles victory 6-2, 6-1 over Shoybek to give Boise State a 3-0 edge.

Bhakti Shah clinched the victory for the Broncos, winning 6-1, 6-0. Idaho State won the final three singles matches to close the gap, 4-3.
