WACO, Texas – Zdena Safarova suffered her first loss of the season in the round of 64 at the NCAA Individual Championships, Tuesday afternoon.

The sophomore faced Stanford freshman standout Valerie Glozman in the first round, losing 6-0, 6-2. Glozman was the No. 1-ranked recruit in the nation for the class of 2024, according to Babolat and DLM Coaching.

Safarova finishes her fall season 11-1 in singles, highlighted by victories at the Mountain West Fall Qualifiers and the ITA Mountain Regionals. She became the fourth Bronco in program history to compete in the NCAA Championships in singles.

"We're obviously sad to see Zdena's season end here at the NCAA Championships," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "We know she's capable of being one of the nation's best, and she proved that by getting here. Glozman is an accomplished player in her own right and is here for a reason. These matches are always tough and can go either way. Going 11-1 and being undefeated heading into the NCAA Championships is an incredible accomplishment, and we're really excited about Zdena's bright future. There are great things ahead for us, and now we turn our attention to the spring season knowing the team has an incredibly bright future."

The Broncos will now look ahead to the spring season, with matches and dates to be announced soon.
