EAGLE, Idaho – John Chin's win at No. 5 singles clinched Boise State men's tennis' victory over Utah State Saturday night in the championship match of the Boise State Spring Fling tournament. It was the first of two wins for the Blue and Orange on Saturday as the Broncos also defeated Illinois State 4-0 in the morning to advance to the title match.

Boise State won the doubles point against Illinois State with victories by Sam Sippel and Jan Lucca Marquardt on court one, followed by John Chin and James Van Herzeele at the second position, both by 6-2 scores.

The Blue and Orange wasted little time in taking complete control of the match during singles play as Idriss Haddouch rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win on court six. Not long after, Jett Middleton moved the Broncos within one of the team victory when he put away his No. 4 singles opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to make it a 3-0 Bronco advantage.

The match clincher against Illinois State came on court two, where Marquardt defeated Nam Pham in two sets, 6-1, 6-4.

The championship match, the Broncos and Aggies battled through a marathon match that lasted three hours and 44 minutes before Boise State came away with the victory to go 3-0 on the week and improve to 11-9 overall.

The night cap opened with Utah State taking the doubles point 2-1 from the Broncos with wins at No. 1 and 2. Boise State's tandem of Sippel and Marquardt claimed a 6-1 win on court one.

Haddouch tied the match when he dispatched his No. 6 singles opponent, Phillip Rein, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Van Herzeele followed shortly after with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court four to put the Blue and Orange up 2-1.

After the Aggies had tied the team score at 2-2, Jip van Assendelft put the Broncos back on top at 3-2, rallying from a set down to win in three 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Utah State rallied to tie the score at 3-3, setting up Chin's match-clinching three-set victory on court five. Chin battled Mohammad Alkotop in a back-and-forth affair before the Bronco junior won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
