Broncos Garner Three Podium-Finishes at Mountain West Championships

CLOVIS, Calif – Three Boise State track and field student-athletes took went home with medalist honors to conclude the 2024 Mountain West Outdoor Championships, Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Stadium.
 
Emily Jobes took home the first podium-finish of the meet for the Broncos, earning a bronze medal in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:05.66.
 
Austen Apperson followed not too long after with a second-place and personal-best finish of his own in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 8:46.65.
 
Ollie Newman garnered the only podium-finish of day three as he finished second in the men's 1,500-meter with a time of 3:44.17, just 0.13 seconds behind winner Habtom Samuel from New Mexico. Newman also raced the men's 5,000-meter the same day, finishing sixth.

  • Boise State registered six top-five finishes on the weekend, with three of those being podium-finishes.
  • The Broncos established nine-career bests.
  • Austen Apperson's silver-medal performance in the men's 3,000m steeplechase marked the fifth-fastest time in program history and the highest Boise State conference finish since Yusuke Uchikoshi took home gold in 2018.
  • Emily Jobes took third in the women's steeplechase, becoming the fourth-fastest in the event in program history. She also recorded the fastest time at the conference championships by a Bronco since Marisa Howard in 2015.
  • Janiah Brown notched the fifth-fastest time in program history in the preliminary round of the women's 800m.
  • Ollie Newman's second-place finish in the men's 1,500m marked the highest conference championship finish in the event since David Elliott in 2016.
