
Shields Adds Idaho Transfer Taiyo Kurata to Roster

BOISE, Idaho - Luke Shields, Boise State Head Men's Tennis Coach, announced today the addition of Taiyo Kurata (Hiroshima, Japan) to the 2024-25 roster. Kurata is a transfer from the University of Idaho with two years of eligibility remaining.

Kurata split time between the No. 1 and 2 singles positions for the Vandals this past spring and finished with a 14-12 overall record on the year. He also played in the top two doubles positions.

As a freshman in 2023, the native of Hiroshima, Japan, earned All-Big Sky Second Team recognition in doubles and was an honorable mention in singles. Kurata split time primarily between the three, four and five positions in singles and finished with a 12-9 record, tallying a 22-18 mark on the year. In doubles, he competed primarily on court two, where he went 10-6 and finished with a 24-13 overall mark.

Kurata helped guide Idaho to the 2023 Big Sky Conference Tournament Championship and a berth into the NCAA Championship.Â
