MISSOULA, Mont. – Boise State recorded its third consecutive 3-0 shutout victory, defeating Southern Miss 25-14, 25-17, 25-21 Friday afternoon at the Ellesyn Invitational at Missoula, Montana.

Boise State performed well against the Golden Eagles, outhitting them in all three sets and .330 to .188 in the match. The Blue and Orange had more kills 46 to 31, more service aces 11 to one, and more blocks seven to six in the win.

The Broncos cruised in the first two sets, using 6-0 and 7-0 runs to pull away midway through each to take control. The Blue and Orange trailed 1-0 in the first and second periods but rallied each time to take the lead and never trailed again in either set.

The third set was tighter. Trailing by one, 16-15, for only the second time in the third, Boise State used a 7-0 run to take the lead for good, eventually winning 25-21 to clinch the match on a Layla Smith kill.

QUOTABLES

Shawn Garus, Head Coach
  • "I thought the team did a really good job with first contact today on serve receive and passing; which allowed us to play in system."
  • "It was an overall great team effort from the service line. We had 11 today with five different Broncos getting an ace."
  • "I was really happy with Bree (Mitchell), Bella (McGirr) and Paige's (Bartsch) passing from all locations on the court today. Our offense is hard to stop when you pass as good as we did against Southern Miss."
  • "Our freshmen Kiki Remensperger and Lilli Etter did a good job of spreading the ball around today from the setter position; our offensive hitting percentage of .330 showed that."

WHAT'S NEXT

Boise State will continue play at the Ellesyn Invitational in Missoula on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT when the Broncos face the Utah Valley Wolverines.
