Broncos Claim Two Top-Three Finishes at Joe Piane Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Boise State men's and women's cross country teams finished second and third, respectively, at the Joe Piane Invitational, Friday.

Finishing runner-up to host school Notre Dame, the men's team registered 71 points. The women placed third in a 20-team field with 108 points.

Individually, Meshack Kuyo led the way for the men, finishing with four points and a time of 22:52.7 for fourth place. Posting a time of 22:55.9, Cincinnati transfer Patrick Kiprop tallied six points and placed two spots behind Kuyo for sixth place.

Alex Thompson (12), Christian Graham (15) and Trent Wigod (34) collectively registered 61 points.

Kaiya Robertson was the first Bronco to cross the finish line for the women, taking fifth, with five points and a time of 16:08.9. She beat her 2024 time of 16:15.1 at last year's event.

Amit Koma (21), Hanna Ackermann (23), Bianca Böhnke (29) and Emily Jobes (30) tallied a total of 103 points.

In the open division, Boise State had seven total athletes compete in the men's and women's races. Eliisa Marshall placed 15th in a field that included 127 qualifiers.

  • The men's team placed second behind host school No. 9 Notre Dame.
  • The women's team took third behind South Carolina and No. 10 Notre Dame.
  • Boise State finished ahead of Mountain West foes Wyoming (third) and Colorado State (16th) in the men's Blue Division race.
  • Additionally, the men finished ahead of three Big Ten schools (Purdue-fourth, Illinois-12th, Iowa-15th) and Cincinnati-seventh, who are members of the Big 12.
  • Boise State's women's team bested three Big Ten schools (Illinois-12th, Iowa-13th, Purdue-19th), two Big 12 institutions Cincinnati-eighth, Kansas State–ninth, and two teams from the Mountain West (Colorado State-10th, Wyoming-16th).
  • Meshack Kuyo was Boise State's top finisher in the men's Blue Division race. He placed fourth with a time of 22:52.7.
  • Kaiya Robertson concluded the race in fifth behind runners from Notre Dame, Liberty and South Carolina.
  • Kuyo, Kiprop, Alex Thompson and Christian Graham placed in the top 20.

What's Next
Boise State will travel to Princeton, New Jersey on Oct. 17 for the Princeton Fall Classic. The following day, a group of Broncos will make the trip to Independence, Oregon for the George Oja Invitational on Oct. 18.
