Boise State Falls to No. 21/21 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Boise State dropped its final nonconference game of the season, losing to No. 21/21 Notre Dame 28-7 on Saturday.

The Broncos (3-2, 1-0 Mountain West) generated 315 yards of total offense, including 215 yards in the air and 100 yards on the ground. Conversely, The Fighting Irish (3-2) recorded 389 yards of offense, including 189 yards passing and 200 yards rushing. Boise State committed four turnovers in the loss. 

Notre Dame found the end zone first, scoring on a 19-yard touchdown pass with just under five minutes left in the opening quarter. Braxton Fely blocked the point after, marking the 27th consecutive season the Broncos have blocked a kick in a season. 

Boise State took the lead with 4:03 in the second quarter when Maddux Madsen found the end zone with his legs in the second quarter. The redshirt junior scored off a play-action keeper from 1-yard out, capping a 10-play, 72-yard drive.

Notre Dame responded, driving the length of the field on the ensuing possession to score a touchdown with 48 seconds left in the half. The Fighting Irish converted the two-point conversion to take a 14-7 advantage to the locker room.

Notre Dame made it a two-score game with a 6-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter. The Fighting Irish put the exclamation point on the contest with a 49-yard touchdown rush midway through the fourth quarter.

Top Broncos
- Ty Benefield led the Broncos with eight tackles, including three solo. The junior also forced a fumble, recorded a pass breakup and combined for a TFL.
- Jake Ripp matched his career-high with six tackles. The redshirt junior added a career-high 1.5 TFLs.
- Latrell Caples and Chris Marshall both tied their respective career-highs with six and four receptions, respectively.
 
Notables  
- Ty Benefield led the team with eight tackles and has led the Broncos in tackles in four out of five games. He is the first player to lead the Broncos in tackles in four of their first five games of a season since JL Skinner in 2021.
- Maddux Madsen finished the game with 215 passing yards, marking the sixth consecutive game he has thrown for over 200 yards. That is the longest streak in program history since Taylen Green did so in 2022 from Oct. 22-Nov. 25.
- Madsen found eight different receivers in the contest for the seventh consecutive game, including all five this season.
- The announced attendance of 77,622 is the fifth-highest of any game in Boise State history.

What's Next
Boise State will return to Albertsons Stadium for a Mountain West matchup against New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is slated for 7:45 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on FS1.
