Broncos Open Conference Play with Win Over No. 72 Fresno State

BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's tennis team secured a 5-2 victory over No. 72 Fresno State in its first conference match of the season, Friday afternoon at BOAS Indoor Tennis Center.
Fresno State (8-5) edged out the doubles point after three tightly contested matches. On court one, Maya Dutta and Zdena Safarova paired up to earn a 6-3 victory over Fresno State's Andjela Lopicic and Klara Vukicevic. The Bulldogs then won at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, taking the matches 7-5 and 7-6(3), respectively, to clinch the point.
Trailing by one, the Broncos quickly regained the lead after Dutta and Paula Schaefer secured the first two singles wins on courts two and four. Ariadna Briones Ginesta then put the Broncos ahead 3-1 with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 position.
Fresno State pulled the score back to 3-2, leaving Safarova at No. 1 and Ella Piron at No. 6 with chances to clinch the overall victory. Safarova defeated Matilde Magrini 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 and Piron topped Eliza Dunbar 6-0, 6-7(3), 6-4 at the same time, securing the 5-2 win and moving the Broncos to 10-2 overall.
