SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.  – Boise State beach volleyball began Southland Conference play with a pair of victories on Monday, defeating Houston Christian, 4-1, before taking down San Jose State, 3-1, in a tri-dual hosted by Cal Poly.

The Broncos (6-9, 2-0 SLC) are now tied with three-time defending champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for first place in the league standings. The Blue and Orange will look to claim their first regular season conference title next weekend at the SLC Midseason Tournament.

The two duals wrap up a busy weekend for the Broncos, who competed in six duals over three days in the Golden State. The Sandy Broncos started on Saturday against San Francisco, with Avery Allen and Addison Moss scoring Boise State's first point of the weekend with a straight-set victory on the No. 5 court. Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden gave Boise State a 2-0 lead, winning 21-17, 27-25 from the top position. After the Dons gathered a point on court three, Allyson Alden and Sharli O'Neil picked up a win from the No. 4 position to clinch the victory for the Blue and Orange.

In the second dual of the weekend, Boise State fell behind early to Concordia Irvine after dropping matches on courts one and four. The Eagles claimed the victory with a straight-set victory on court three. Alden and O'Neil salvaged a point from the No. 2 position, winning a thrilling 21-18, 18-21, 15-13 match as the Broncos fell 4-1.

On the second day of competition, No. 9 Long Beach State jumped out to a 2-0 advantage following victories on court one and five. Allen and partner Abbie Wolf put the Broncos on the scoreboard with a 21-16, 21-10 victory from the No. 4 spot, but the Beach won the final two courts to secure a 4-1 victory.

Alden and O'Neil won their third match of the weekend to put the Broncos on the board first against Cal State Bakersfield, but the Roadrunners evened the score with a win on court four. Boise State's No. 5 pair of  Avery Bowidowicz and Lily Patock gave the squad a one-point lead with a straight-set win, but the Roadrunners knotted the score at two with a win from the No. 3 spot. The dual came down to the top court, where Cal State Bakersfield came away with a thrilling 17-21, 26-24, 16-14 victory to claim the outcome.

The Broncos ended the weekend with the beginning of SLC competition. Boise State claimed a victory against Houston Christian after securing straight-set wins from courts three, four and five. The Broncos ended the day with a 3-1 victory over San Jose State, with the top court ending early due to time constraints.
