
Broncos Sweep Doubleheader From Tigers

STOCKTON, Calif. – Boise State hit four home runs during a doubleheader sweep at Pacific in nonconference softball, Tuesday.

In the opener, Makenzie Butt and Hollie Farmer went deep in a 7-2 victory. The nightcap saw Megan Lake and Brooklynn Pettis dial long distance in a 9-6 win that improved Boise State to 21-9.

The Broncos trailed 2-1 in the fourth in game one when Sydney Groves tied the game with an RBI-single.

In the fifth, Quinn Southerland's RBI-double gave Boise State the lead for good. Butt added an opposite field drive with a runner aboard later in the inning for her 13th of the year. Farmer capped the scoring with a two-run blast in the sixth.

Brook Thompson (7-2) went 4 1/3 innings in the circle to earn the victory and Abby Dowell logged 2 2/3 frames of hitless relief to pick up her third save.

Sydney Groves drew a bases loaded walk and Lake cleared the bases with a three-run double. Butt added an RBI-double in the second for a 5-0 advantage.

The Tigers (9-18) closed the gap to 5-2 before Pettis came off the bench to lead off the fourth and launched her eighth home run of the season. Lake upped the lead to 8-2 with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Pacific put up a four spot in the sixth to cut the Boise State lead to 8-6, but Pettis added insurance with a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Olivia Bauer (5-2) gave up two unearned runs in five innings and Julianne Rose recorded a pair of shutout innings for her second save.

Boise State hosts Nevada for a three-game Mountain West series, Friday-Sunday. First pitch for the opener is 6 p.m.
