SAN ANTONIO – Boise State lost the championship game of the Birds Up Bash 15-11 to Houston, Sunday.

The Broncos (15-5) overcame an 8-1 deficit with an eight-run fourth inning, but Houston (14-5) rallied for seven runs in the sixth.

Megan Lake started the fourth-inning rally with a one-out double. A pair of walks loaded the bases and Quinn Southerland plated two runs with a single. Southerland finished with four hits to tie a school single-game freshman record and a career-high five RBI.

Sophia Knight followed with a single and Mykenzie Hanna drew a base loaded walk to cut the deficit to 8-4. A wild pitch brought home a run and another came home on fielder's choice off the bat of Leah McAnally.

Brooklynn Pettis was a hit by a pitch and Sydney Groves capped the rally with a three-run home run, her fourth round-tripper of the weekend, to give the Broncos a 9-8 lead.

"I really liked the tournament atmosphere this weekend," head coach Justin Shults said. "We got off to a slow start today, but I am proud of the way we battled back. Once again, we had trouble closing out a game and that is something we will learn from."

The Broncos open their home slate with the Blue Collar Classic, Thursday-Saturday. Boise State hosts Idaho State, Thursday at 5 p.m. to begin the tournament.

*Sophia Knight extended her hitting streak to a school-record 22 games…Knight has reached base in 34-straight games.
*Makenzie Butt and Sydney Groves combined to go 15-for-29 with three doubles, seven home runs, 26 RBI and 13 runs in the five-game tournament.
