WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State Beach Volleyball will return to play after a weekend off to compete in the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, S.C. The Broncos (4-4), who are receiving votes in the latest AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll, will play four matches over the course of the weekend.
WEEKEND SCHEDULE: The Blue and Orange will open the event against No. 20 South Carolina on Friday, March 13 at 9 a.m. MT before taking on UNC Wilmington later in the day at 1 p.m. MT. Boise State will conclude the weekend on Saturday with duals against Jacksonville (7 a.m. MT) and College of Charleston (9 a.m. MT).
SEASON RECAP: The Broncos enter the season with a 4-4 record, with all four losses occurring to ranked opponents. Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden have had a hot start to the season, boasting a 6-2 record including a pair of ranked victories. Allyson Alden and Serena van der Made hold a 5-3 season mark.
FRIDAY'S SCOUT: Though the Gamecocks (6-2) and Broncos are both members of the Big 12, Friday's dual will count as a nonconference matchup. The two teams squared off a year ago in the only matchup between the two programs, with South Carolina claiming a 4-1 victory. The Gamecocks are 1-1 against ranked opponents this year, defeating No. 17 North Florida 3-2 before falling, 1-4, to No. 14 Stetson. Assistant coach Alex Luna spent a year as an assistant with the Gamecocks prior to his arrival in the Treasure Valley. Boise State's contest against the Seahawks (3-9) will be the first matchup in program history. UNC Wilmington is 0-3 against ranked opponents and enters the weekend on a three-game losing streak.
SATURDAY'S SCOUT: Saturday's duals against the Dolphins (6-6) and the Cougars (3-9) will also mark the first contest against each opponent in program history. Jacksonville is 0-2 against ranked foes, falling to No. 14 Stetson and No. 17 North Florida. College of Charleston enters the weekend riding a two-match winning streak.
NEW YEAR, NEW CONFERENCE: Boise State will be competing in its inaugural seasons as members of the Big 12. The Broncos, who officially joined the league alongside Florida State and South Carolina in September 2025, joined incumbent members Arizona, Arizona State and defending national champion TCU. Boise State will compete in two conference events: the Big 12 Preview in Fort Worth, Texas on March 27-28 and the Big 12 Conference Championship on April 22-24 in Tucson, Ariz. The Broncos spent the previous three seasons as members of the Southland Conference after playing their first nine seasons without a conference affiliation.
NEW YEAR, NEW COACH: The 2026 season marks the debut of head coach Alex Venardos, who took over the helm of the program after Allison Voigt stepped down over the summer. Venardos, who was named to the 2023 class of the AVCA Thirty Under 30 Beach honorees, has served as a full-time assistant in the program since 2019 and has been involved with the program since 2016.
YEAR IN REVIEW: The Broncos are coming off their most accomplished season to date. Boise State won both the SLC regular season and conference championship, the latter of which claimed the program's first berth in the 16-team NCAA Beach Volleyball National Tournament. The Broncos finished 23-12, marking their fourth consecutive 20+ win season.
BLOCK PARTY: Alden launched a 'Block Party' fundraiser on Feb. 11 for every ace and/or block the sixth-year senior records on the season. The campaign asks donors to pledge a certain dollar amount for every ace or block that Alden records during the 2026 campaign, with all donations going towards BroncoBOLD. On the opening weekend, Alden recorded 17 aces and 19 blocks. Those interested in joining can sign up here.
