Boise State Falls to Auburn at BGNTC

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Feb. 27, 2016) - Boise State men's tennis completed the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., with a 4-2 defeat at the hands of No. 48 Auburn on Saturday afternoon. Boise State began by taking the team doubles point 2-1, but managed only one singles victory by Pedro Platzeck on court five as the Tigers rallied for the win. The loss moved the Broncos to 7-7 overall on the year.
Boise State opened by claiming the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. The Tigers took the early lead in doubles taking No. 2 doubles 6-0. The Broncos rallied with a 6-3 win on court one by Kyle Butters and Toby Mitchell over Auburn's Marko Krickovic and Edward Nguyen to tie it up.
The decisive match was No. 3 doubles where Boise State's Brina Foley and Pedro Platzeck claimed a hard fought 7-5 victory over Max Hinnisdaels and Joseph Van Dooren to hand the team point to the Broncos.
Auburn jumped out to a 2-1 lead following singles victories at No. 6 and 2 singles.
Platzeck pulled the Broncos even when he claimed a three-set victory on court five over Auburn's Van Dooren 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Boise State freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil, is now 7-4 this spring.
The Tigers then claimed the match with a second-set tiebreaker 6-4, 7-6 (3) on court three over the Broncos' Kyle Butters, followed by a tough three-set win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 versus Boise State's Abe Hewko to clinch the match for Auburn.
