Boise State Falls to Pepperdine

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State men's tennis fell 4-0 to the Pepperdine Waves Saturday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Center. Boise State lost the doubles point 2-0 and then the first three singles contests completed in a match played to clinch.
Pepperdine claimed the doubles point from the Broncos with wins at the No. 2 and 1 positions respectively. The Broncos tandem of Jack Heslin and Morgan Stone lost 6-2 on court two followed by a 6-3 defeat of Pedro Platzeck and Brian Tran on court one.
In singles the Waves recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over Morgan Stone at No. 5 singles to go up 2-0 overall. That was followed by a 6-3, 6-3 loss on court two by Heslin and a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Platzeck at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for the Waves who improved to 8-7 overall.
Leading Boise State were two freshmen, starting with Brian Tran who was leading his No. 3 singles match 7-5, 3-2 over Lautaro Pane when the contest was stopped. He had rallied from 5-3 down in set one to win the first set.
Ryland McDermott was also leading his match on court six up 6-1, 5-5 versus Dane Esses when the contest was abandoned.
Kyle Butters was battling on court one where he was down one set but leading in the second 4-6, 2-1 at the time play was suspended.
The Broncos will continue their six-match homestand next weekend when they host New Mexico on Friday (April 7) and a doubleheader versus Air Force and Idaho on Sunday (April 9).
