Win Streak Ends with Loss to UC Davis

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (9/7/2018) - Boise State's record win streak came to an end Friday night with a four set 25-27, 25-13, 25-19, 25-21 loss to UC Davis at the Santa Clara Invitational. Boise State won the opening set rallying to take it in extra points, then struggled hitting the ball the rest of the way as the Aggies rallied for the win. The loss drops the Broncos to 6-1 overall. They now return home for the first time this season next Thursday against 12th-ranked Washington to open the Boise State Classic.
Sabryn Roberts and Janell Walley both recorded double-doubles to lead the Broncos on the night. Roberts finished with 12 kills - one short of 1,000 career kills - and 15 digs to go with four assists and three blocks. Walley added season highs for kills and digs with 12 and 18, respectively, along with two assists and two blocks.
Morgan Hughes followed with 10 kills, one service ace, six digs and five blocks. Meanwhile, Cassedi Simon dished out 32 assists from the setter position, while Jessie Brigham, playing libero, recorded a team and season-high 24 digs.
Boise State finished the night hitting a season-low 8.1 percent for 48 kills with 46 assists, two service aces, season-high 81 digs and six blocks. It is the first match that the Broncos trailed in blocks this season as UC Davis had 11. UCD finished the match hitting 18.2 percent with 53 kills, 49 assists, five service aces and 72 digs.Â
The Broncos opened the match by hitting a match-high 21.3 percent in the set as they rallied from 24-21 down to win the set in extra points 27-25.Â
The next three sets went to UC Davis as the Broncos struggled to hit the ball. Boise State failed to hit higher than 8.3 percent in any of the final three periods, while the Aggies rallied by hitting 22.2 percent in the second, 16.3 percent in the third and 21.2 percent in the fourth. Â
Boise State completed three weeks on the road with a school record for season-opening win streak (6-0) and two tournament titles. The Broncos will now take their 6-1 record into the Boise State Classic, next Thursday through Saturday, where they will face No. 12 Washington in the opener on Thursday, followed by contests against CSU Northridge and Portland on Friday, before closing out the classic and the non-conference schedule versus Sacramento State on Saturday.
Ticket prices for home matches remain the same as last year: $6 for adults, $4 for juniors (high school age and younger) and seniors 62 or older. Boise State students with valid ID card and children two and under get in for free.
Fans are also encouraged to purchase a Bronco Sports Pass for $75. The pass will grant admission to regular season events during the 2018-19 season for: gymnastics, soccer, softball, volleyball and women's basketball. The sports pass does not include any conference tournaments or postseason national tournaments hosted by Boise State.
