No. 24 Boise State to play Sacramento State, Pacific and Fairleigh Dickinson in final tune-up before Mountain West play
BOISE, Idaho – Riding the longest winning streak in program history, the Boise State softball team will play four games at the Louisville Slugger Tournament. The Broncos (14-2) will play Sacramento State, Fairleigh Dickinson and Pacific at their final non-conference tournament this weekend.
SERIES HISTORY: The Broncos own a combined 3-5 all-time record against opponents they will face in Stockton. Boise State has dropped their last two contests against Sacramento State, and are 1-3 all-time against the Hornets. The last victory over the Big Sky program came in an 11-2 win on March 30, 2010. Team XI will also look to end a skid against Pacific this weekend, and own a 2-2 record all-time against the Tigers.
This will be the first meeting against Fairleigh Dickinson.
NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED WIN STREAK:Â Winners of 13-straight, Boise State has the third-longest active win streak in the country. Since dropping back-to-back games against Northwestern State and then No. 16 Texas (Feb. 8-9) at the Texas Classic, the Broncos have rattled-off 13-consecutive victories, which trails only: Alabama (21 games) and South Carolina (14 games). The streak is currently the longest string of victories in program history.
AT LAST, WE'VE REACHED THE POLLS:Since the program's inception for the 2009 season, Boise State has never been ranked in softball. That changed on March 5 with the release of the Week 4 Softball America Poll, currently in its inaugural season, which pegged the Broncos as 24th in the nation. Team XI also appeared in both of the other two major polls – USA Today/NFCA Coaches' Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll – that week. The Broncos accumulated 23 points in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches' Poll, while checking in for the first time in the 2019 season in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll, garnering a single vote. This is the first time in program history that Boise State has made an appearance in all three major polls.
ALI SENG THE TALISMAN:Â Over the span of Boise State's 13-game win streak, one other aspect of the Bronco lineup has remained constant: sophomore infielder Alison Seng's ability to get on base. Seng, who currently leads the team with a .400 batting average, has reached base safely in 13-consecutive games. The Garden Grove, Calif., native has also recorded a hit in 10-straight games.
MANCHA ON FIRE: With six-straight wins to her name, sophomore pitcher Gianna Mancha has made a leap in her progression from last season. The Fresno, Calif., native went 2-0 on the weekend at the San Diego Classic, and picked up a save along the way. She allowed only one run in 14.2 innings of action on the weekend, finishing with an ERA of 0.48. The right-hander struck out 12, while giving up only six hits and seven walks – and was also dominant with back-to-back shutouts against UIC and Long Beach State. She also came within two outs of a no-hitter against the Flames.  Â
