FRESNO, Calif. - Wyatt DeMulling led Boise State Sunday afternoon in Fresno, Calif., with singles and doubles victories over the Fresno State Bulldogs, but it was not enough as the Broncos fell 4-2 in a Mountain West match on the road. DeMulling helped the Blue and Orange earn the team doubles point 2-1 when he partnered with Simon Stenlund to win on court three. He then followed that up by claiming the lone singles victory for Boise State. The loss dropped the Broncos to 11-8 overall and 1-5 in MW play. Â Â
The day started off with the Broncos winning their first doubles point in seven matches as they took it 2-1 over Fresno State. DeMulling and Stenlund brought home the first win in doubles 6-3 over Henrique Osorio and Cem Erturk on court three. After Fresno State evened it up following a hard battle on court one where the Broncos' Maximilien Blancaneaux and Jack Heslin fell in a tiebreaker 7-6.Â
That left the decisive doubles match on court two where Simon Arca Costas and Luka Soskic came through on a tiebreaker of their own 7-6 over the Bulldogs' duo of Angus Bradshaw and Cagatay Soke to hand Boise State the team point.
The Broncos fell behind early in singles play when two members were forced to retire following injuries. Both Heslin on court four and Soskic on court one retired early in the second set of their contests as Boise State found itself in a 2-1 hole.Â
After the deficit grew to 3-1 following a Fresno State victory at No. 5 singles, DeMulling turned in his singles victory at the No. 3 position. After a tight opening set, the junior beat Jeremy Moser with a decisive second set 7-5, 6-1. DeMulling is now 22-10 in singles on the year and 13-3 in spring duals.Â
The match was decided when the Bulldogs earned the clinching point with a two-set victory at No. 2 singles.Â
