BOISE, Idaho. – Boise State's Kyryll Kryvchun and Blake Bayldon won the Dar Walters Fall Classic on Sunday morning defeating their teammates Wyatt DeMulling and Simon Arca Costas 2-1. The Broncos showed up and handled business by placing two pairs in the finals, it was a win, win situation for Boise State.

"I feel like my guys competed well," said Boise State head coach Kristian Widen. "Being the first tournament of the year it's hard to predict where our level of play is going to be, obviously I'm very happy with having two teams in the finals. I felt like the level was pretty high for being this early into the year, but we still have some things to work on. It's always positive when you win a tournament, makes it easier to go to work on Monday, practice is better when everyone is feeling good about what they accomplished."

The two pairs opened the day up with a doubles match, where Kryvchun and Bayldon defeated DeMulling and Arca Costas 6-4 in a hard-fought battle.

After that the pairs split up for the singles matches. Arca Costas defeated Bayldon via injury default, 3-0.

That made Kryvchun and DeMulling's contest the make or break match for the title. Kryvchun ended up defeating DeMulling 6-1, 6-0 making the pair of Kryvchun and Bayldon champions of the 2019 Dar Walters Fall Classic.

"This is the first tournament I've ever won in division one, it's pretty unbelievable that I get to do it here," said Kryvchun. "The atmosphere was unbelievable. Even though it was a teammate match up in the final, I still had so much fun and I'm glad I can be apart of this team."

Coming up next for the Broncos is the Idaho State Fall Invitational at Pocatello, Idaho, (Oct. 4-6).

OTHER NOTABLES

This is the first time that the Dar Walters Fall Classic has taken on the pairs format where two teammates compete together as a team in doubles and singles throughout the tournament.
Ryland McDermott faced the number one player in the tournament during Saturday morning's second round in Utah State's Felipe Acosta, McDermott took him to three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 before falling ... a solid result for the senior recovering from injury last spring.
Debuting for Boise State at the Dar Walters Fall Classic where newcomers Blake Bayldon, Kyryll Kryvchun, Kemal Karagozoglu … with Bayldon and Kryvchun winning the championship.
The Broncos overall record at the tournament was 6-4 in doubles and 14-5 in singles.
