Broncos Dominate on Day One

NAMPA, Idaho – Boise State track and field saw plenty of success on day one of a split weekend with a portion of the squad remaining home to host the Boise State Challenge and a group participating at the Husky Classic in Seattle.

In the Boise State Challenge, sophomore Dafni Georgiou easily grabbed the top spot in Saturday's 60-meter hurdle final with a time of 8.58, over a tenth of a second faster than her closest competitor. The final will take place at noon MT Saturday.

In the women's long jump, Abi Dargan leapt to a personal best 18-feet, eight-inches, good enough for a second-place finish.

For the men, sophomore David Pierce led the way, qualifying as the top Bronco in both the 60m and the 200m dash. He placed third in the 60m matching his current personal best of 6.99. Pierce finished runner-up in the 200m with a time of 21.92.

In Seattle, the women got out to a fast start logging six-personal bests, three in the 3,000m and three more in the 5,000m. In the 3,000m Olivia Johnson (9:26.19), Yukino Parle (9:27.28), and Malia Pivec (9:43.74) all set high marks. Johnson and Parle finished second and third respectively.

Meanwhile in the 5,000m, Claire Graves led the way with a 13th-place finish while shaving over 15 seconds off her old PR. Sophomore Sailor Hutton (17:00.01) and freshman Julia Pleskaczynska (17:34.73) established personal bests of their own.

Rounding out the evening, graduate transfer Riccardo Mugnosso made his Boise State debut by established a PR in the men's 5,000m with a time of 14:11.41.

Action resumes Saturday in Nampa with the men's high jump at 9 a.m. MT. In Seattle, the Broncos kick things off with the women's mile 12:35 p.m. MT.
