Broncos Net Four, Take Down Roadrunners at Home

9/17/2021 8:14:00 PM | Women's Soccer

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State bounced back from a pair of losses last weekend in a big way, routing CSU Bakersfield 4-1 at Boas Soccer Complex Friday evening.

The match sat scoreless through the first quarter of an hour before a Roadrunner foul in the penalty box led to a Bronco penalty kick, which Morgan Stone coolly sent past the keeper for the opener. The Roadrunners gave their response before the halftime buzzer with a header from Jamie Ingrassia to level the score at the break.

With just over two minutes passed in the second half, Reese Bodas collected the rebound of a Morgan Miles' shot and smashed it through, reclaiming the lead for the Broncos. In the 70th minute Kenzie MacMillan placed a corner kick perfectly into the box for Jocelyn Stephens who scored on a header to extend the lead 3-1.

In her first game at Boas Soccer Complex since injuring her leg last season, Aubree Chatterton gave the fans a goal to remember as she collected her own saved shot and scored in the 83rd minute, putting the match away for good, 4-1. The goal gives her 38 points in her career, tying Abbe Roche and Baylee Blaser for ninth all time in program history.

This was the third match this season that featured four different Bronco goal scorers, with other occurrences being against Dixie State (Aug. 26) and Portland State (Sept. 5). All four goals were the first of each scorer's respective seasons, while Bodas' and Stephens' were the first in their careers. Boise State has had 11 different players score its 17 goals this season.

Goakeeper Sydney Smith earned the win on the night, giving her 23 in her career and sole possession of fourth all-time in program history. With the win the Broncos improved to 6-2 on the year and remained undefeated at home, posting a 4-0 mark in Boise for the first time since 2018.

The match was Boise State's final nonconference match of the season. Up next is a four-match Mountain West road trip that begins next weekend with matches against UNLV (Sept. 24) and Nevada (Sept. 26).
