Broncos Open Series with Doubleheader Sweep

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State posted a pair of run-rule victories over visiting New Mexico to sweep a doubleheader, Friday.
The Broncos (36-10, 15-5 MW) won 13-4 and 8-0 to extend their winning streak to eight games. Both games lasted five innings and Boise State has 12 mercy-rule victories this season.
In the opener, the Lobos (25-24, 5-15) led 1-0 before the Broncos exploded for nine runs in the third inning.
Jalen Ervin opened the frame with a single. Abby Bumcrot sacrificed and a throwing error on the play allowed Ervin to score and Bumcrot to reach third. After a pair of hit batters, Kelsey Hall walked to force in the go-ahead run.
Alycia Flores singled in a run and Alison Seng delivered a sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead. Ervin added a two-run single and Bumcrot ripped a two-run double to push the advantage to 8-1. Eliyah Flores added a run-scoring single to cap the rally.
In the fourth, Alycia Flores and Mykenzie Hanna each hit solo home runs. Hailey Hayes drove in a run with a pinch hit-single and a throwing error on the play allowed another run to score.
Hannah Bailey (16-3) earned the complete game victory.
In the nightcap, Boise State took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Hall's 12th home run of the season.
The Broncos ended the game with a seven-run fifth. Bumcrot singled in the first run and Kelsey Lalor doubled home a pair. Alycia Flores and Seng each contributed an RBI-single to make the score 6-0. Autumn Bennett plated a run with a ground out and Ervin's infield single knocked in the final tally.
Taylor Caudill (13-5) fired a one-hit shutout and struck out nine.
The Broncos and Lobos will take Saturday off due to expected inclement weather and will finish the series, Sunday with first pitch at noon.
