Broncos Roll Past Idaho 6-1

Boise State improved to 3-1 overall and remained a perfect 3-0 at home.

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's tennis rolled past the Idaho Vandals 6-1 Friday afternoon in Boise to improve to 3-1 overall and remain a perfect 3-0 at home.
 
The Broncos opened by taking all three doubles matches in decisive fashion to claim the team doubles point. They then continued their momentum in singles taking the first three contests to clinch the team victory up 4-0.
 
Jan Lucca Marquardt turned in the first win in singles on court six, where he swept Idaho's Mario Duron 6-3, 6-3. James Van Herzeele extended the Boise State advantage to 3-0 with his two-set 6-2, 6-2 No. 3 singles victory.
 
Simon Arca Costas recorded the match-clinching win on court two, where he dispatched the Vandals' Francisco Gay in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to make it 4-0 Boise State.
 
Sam Sippel and John Chin earned victories on third-set 10-point tiebreakers to close the day handing Boise State the five-point victory over its instate-rivals.

Notable

  • Arca Costas and Michael Bott remain perfect at 4-0 in doubles during team duals this spring and 5-1 overall…Arca Costas improved to 12-7 on the year, while Bott is a team-best 14-5.
  • Arca Costas' two wins on Friday give him a total of 147 combined career victories, moving him into 15th place all-time at Boise State.
  • Arca Costas' singles victory was his 13th – a team-high – of the year and moved him to 84 in his career, five short of moving into a three-way tie for 11th-place all-time; he is currently 13th.
  • Van Herzeele and Sippel recorded their 12th singles victory of the year.
  • Boise State improved to 41-3 in the series versus Idaho dating back to April 1987.

What's Next

  • Boise State will be on the road next week, traveling to California to face UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 17 and Cal Poly on Feb. 19.
