Boise State took undefeated UC Santa Barbara to the edge before falling 4-3.
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Boise State men's tennis came up on the short end of a 4-3 score Friday afternoon as the undefeated UC Santa Barbara Gauchos held off the Broncos.
The loss was the second of the year for the Blue and Orange, who moved to 3-2 overall, while UCSB improved to 9-0.
The match went back and forth, with the Broncos striking first by claiming the team doubles point with victories by Simon Arca Costas and Michael Bott on court two and Sam Sippel and Jan Lucca Marquardt.
After UCSB had tied the score at 1-1, Arca Costas – who won the first set – found himself in a 5-2 hole in set two. The fifth-year senior regrouped and rallied to win the No. 2 singles match on a second-set tiebreaker 6-2, 7-6(4).
With the score tied 2-2, Boise State regained the lead when Sippel won on court one in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, to put the Broncos up 3-2.
Down one, UCSB rallied, taking the final two singles contests to clinch the team victory.
