AUSTIN, Texas – Three student-athletes from the Boise State men's tennis team were named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators, Tuesday afternoon. Ryo Minakata, Sam Sippel and James Van Herzeele were each selected by the organization for their academic and athletic achievements.

Student-athletes are eligible for the award by holding a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale and playing in 50 percent or more of their team's competitions. They must also have completed a full academic year at their current institution.

Minakata – who is majoring in business administration – was 11-6 in singles during the spring duals season, holding a winning record on each of the courts 3-6. The native of Japan was one of four Broncos to record double-digit victories in both singles and doubles during the 2022-23 campaign.

Sippel is working on his master's in business administration and played the most court-one singles matches of any Bronco during the spring season (11). The German posted a mark of 18-10 overall to earn All-Mountain West Singles honors while racking up 21 wins in doubles.

Van Herzeele is studying business administration and recorded the second-most singles victories of any Bronco this season (24). A native of Phuket, Thailand, Van Herzeele achieved a 14-8 record in singles during the spring season while playing matches at positions 2-4.

The Bronco men's tennis program recently concluded one of its most successful seasons in the last decade, which culminated in a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years. The Broncos won the 2023 Mountain West tournament title – the fifth in program history – and recorded a nine-year high for wins in a season (21).

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America Ballot. First, second and third-team selections will be announced on May 31st.
