Boise State Comes Up Short at Denver

DENVER – Boise State men's tennis came up on the short end of a 5-2 score against the Denver Pioneers Friday night. The Broncos move to 5-4 overall and are still looking for their first away victory, while the Pioneers remain undefeated on the year at 7-0.

The Broncos claimed the early lead by winning the doubles point 2-0. James Van Herzeele and Jett Middleton won a quick 6-2 victory on court three, followed by a tight 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles by Jan Lucca Marquardt and Caden Moortgat.

Denver won the first three singles matches completed on courts five, two and six, respectively, to go up 3-1 and within one of clinching the team victory.

Van Herzeele pulled one back for the Broncos as the junior rallied from an opening set tiebreaker loss to win in three sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 over Peter Sallay to make it DU 3-2.

The Pioneers earned their match-clinching victory at No. 3 singles, where Marvin Schaber outlasted the Broncos' Marquardt in three sets, 6-1, 6-7(7), 6-2, to make it 4-2 DU.
