Broncos Advance to Mountain West Title Match

BOISE, Idaho – Ava de Leest made two saves in penalty kicks and Boise State advanced 3-2 over San Diego State in a Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship Semifinal, Wednesday.

The Broncos (10-3-7) and Aztecs (9-4-7) battled to a 1-1 tie through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.

In penalty kicks, both teams were successful in round one with Cindy Conner converting for the Broncos. After de Leest made her first save, Kenzie MacMillan failed to convert. The Aztecs hit the crossbar in round three and Madie Donovan gave the Broncos a 2-1 advantage.

San Diego State converted in round four and Olivia Collins did the same for Boise State for a 3-2 lead heading into the final round. Again, de Leest came up big denying Grace Goins to seal the match for the Broncos.

Neither team got on the scoreboard in the first half, but both teams had a goal disallowed in the opening stanza. The Aztecs struck in the 51st minute to take a 1-0 lead.

In the 67th minute, Boise State knotted the contest when Asia Lawyer drove down the right side and fed Kenzie MacMillan in the box. MacMillan's shot hit the right post before Jillian Anderson buried the rebound.
