PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – Chloe Hughes set a Boise State freshman record with seven RBI and Boise State routed FIU 18-1, Saturday at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

Hughes finished the game 3-for-3 with a double and a triple as Boise State (7-3) avenged an earlier tournament loss to FIU (6-4).

The Broncos scored six times in the top of the first and sent 10 batters to the plate. Sophia Knight led off with a double and scored on a one-out double by Sydney Groves. Megan Lake added a two-run single and Hughes capped the rally with a three-run triple.

Boise State led 9-1 after three before adding four in the fourth and five in the fifth.

In the fourth, Skylar Stroh doubled in a run, Hughes plated two with a single, and Knight added an RBI-triple.

Kaylee Vieira contributed an RBI-single off the bench in the fifth and Leah McAnally singled in a run. Hughes drove in two more with a double and Knight beat out a ground ball to first for an RBI-single.

Boise State travels to St. George, Utah for the Lyman Classic, Feb. 20-23.

*Sophia Knight was 12-for-20 with three doubles, a triple, six runs, four RBI and two stolen bases and was named tournament MVP.
*Chloe Hughes (8-for-10, 8 RBI) and Megan Lake (8-for-15, 7 RBI) were named all-tournament.
*Freshman Olivia Bauer pitched 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief for her first-career win.
*Sophomore Kaylee Vieira collected her first-career hit and RBI.
*Boise State collected six doubles, one shy of the school record.
*The Broncos had 19 hits, tied for fourth most in school history.
*Boise State's 18 runs tied for seventh in school history.
*Broncos have scored in nine of their last 12 innings, including seven frames with multiple runs.
