Velik Named MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State's Lukas Velik has been named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week for the week of April 7-14. This is Velik's second MW Freshman of the Week honor this spring.

The native of Prague, Czechia, helped the Broncos win at Nevada 4-1 in their only contest of the week by winning his No. 3 singles match.

With Boise State trailing by one to Nevada heading into singles, and after the Broncos dropped five of the six first sets in singles. Velik led the Boise State rally, winning in an up-and-down three-set match over Rayen Hermassi 0-6, 6-0, 6-4. He was the first Boise State player off the court, sparking the Boise State rally.

Velik and his teammates close the 2025 regular season schedule at home this week, hosting Air Force on Thursday at 5 p.m. and New Mexico on Saturday at 11 a.m., both matches will be at the Appleton Tennis Center on campus.
