LAS VEGAS - Three Broncos, Carson Baker, Jett Middleton and James Van Herzeele, have been named to the postseason Mountain West Men's Tennis All-Conference Team as announced by the league office Tuesday night in Las Vegas.Â
Baker and Middleton earned double recognition in both singles and doubles, while Van Herzeele received his accolade for singles. Today's announcement marks the first time any of the three have earned postseason honors from the league.Â
To date, the Boise State program has received 25 All-MW singles and 14 doubles team honors since joining the conference for the 2012 campaign.
Baker, a sophomore, went 22-12 – a team-high for wins – in singles during the year and 6-0 in singles during conference play. He finished the regular season on a six-match wins streak in singles and a 12-6 overall record this spring in team duals, playing primarily at No. 2 singles.Â
Middleton was one of three seniors on this year's roster and was one of the team leaders. He recorded a 17-16 overall mark in singles. He played at No. 1 singles in 18 spring duals, facing the top player from every team, including seven matches versus ranked opponents. He has been ranked among the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) top 125 most of the year, including a high of 92. He will enter this week's MW Championship as the only MW student-athlete nationally ranked, coming in at No. 121 with a 10-8 spring record and 2-2 conference mark.
Baker and Middleton teamed up at No. 1 doubles this spring, going 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the league. They were 2-1 versus nationally ranked tandems.
Van Herzeele is also a senior for the Broncos. He finished his final campaign in the Blue and Orange at 20-9 overall in singles, 15-2 in spring duals, and 4-1 on MW play. He played primarily at No. 4 singles, where he was 9-1. The 20 wins this year gave him three consecutive years with 20-plus singles victories and 78 total.Â
The trio will lead the 42nd-ranked Broncos and back-to-back Mountain West Regular Season Champions into this week's MW Championship as the No. 1 seed. Following a bye on Wednesday, Boise State will begin its march toward a third-consecutive conference tournament title on Thursday at 6 p.m. (Mountain) versus the winner of the Air Force-Nevada match from Wednesday.Â
