Boise State Falls 4-2 to Lamar

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Boise State men's tennis lost 4-2 to Lamar in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Los Angeles Saturday afternoon. The loss eliminates the Broncos from its four-team UCLA Bracket in the 64-team tournament which serves as a qualifier for the ITA Indoor National Team Championship in February. The loss drops the young Bronco squad to 1-3 on the year.
Brian Tran and Morgan Stone led Boise State against the Cardinals winning their singles matches to record the Broncos' two team points. Tran, a freshman from Australia, won his match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 over Lamar's No. 2 player Nikita Lis to make the team score 2-1.
Morgan Stone, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., recorded his victory over LU's Benny Schweizer in two sets 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. His win made the team score 3-2 Lamar.
Sophomore Kyle Butters was about to split 6-4, 1-5 on court one with Michael Feucht when the match was abandoned once Lamar had clinched the team victory.
Next up for Boise State is a road trip to Evanston, Ill., to face Northwestern next Friday (Feb. 3) and Harvard on Sunday (Feb. 5) in Evanston.
