Ostrander first Bronco to break 4:40 barrier in the women's mile, Fuller, Schoffield and Venters move up school record book
Less than 24 hours after anchoring Boise State's distance medley relay team to a school record, Ostrander took third in the invitational of the women's mile in 4:35.79 -- a mark that broke the previous school record by seven seconds.
With the pacers taking the race out in 68 seconds at the 400m split, Ostrander tucked back in the middle of the pack through the first half of the race. Entering the bell lap, Ostrander moved to second, right behind Washington's Katie Rainsberger, holding position entering the final 200 meters.Â
Professional runner Hanna Green and Oklahoma State's Sinclair Johnson took the lead down the final stretch, but Ostrander was able to pass Rainsberger for third. Both Green and Johnson defeated Ostrander by less than a second.Â
Schoffield opened the invitational section for Boise State by taking sixth in the first heat of the mile. Schoffield's time of 4:43.43 moves her to third on the school record book following Ostarnder's record breaking performance.ÂOstrander! Both Venters and Clare O'Brien posted strong marks in the women's 3000m. Venters moved to second on the school record book (9:08.66) thanks to an aggressive race strategy where she put herself just off the shoulders of the leaders from the start of the race. O'Brien was just off of her personal best in a respectable time of 9:11.48.
Fuller opened the day with a phenomenal showing in the women's 800m, taking third in 2:06.39. Fuller kept pace with the leaders in the fastest section of the open 800m, and held strong down the stretch to finish third as the top collegian. Her time would have put her fourth in the fastest section of the invitational, making her the fastest collegian on the day.Â

Taking the lead with roughly 600 meters remaining in the race, Maxine Paholek easily won her heat of the women's 3000m in 9:35.17. Her time ranked her 13th in the open sections of the 3000m.
