The Bronco men's tennis team prepares to host another pair of home matches this weekend against Lewis-Clark State, Friday, and in-state opponent Idaho State, Sunday.
Lewis-Clark State has yet to play a match in the spring season while Idaho State is 0-1 after dropping a match to Utah State on Jan. 13. The Warriors and Bengals will also face each other in a neutral match on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. All three matches will be held at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos opened their season last Friday with a 7-0 win over Montana State. Boise State was dominant against the Bobcats, starting the match by claiming the doubles point and eventually winning four of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Boise State faced off against the Gonzaga two days later where they came up just short against the Bulldogs, falling 4-3. Gonzaga won the doubles point to start things off, but Luka Soskic, Simon Arca Costas and Jack Heslin all battled in singles and eventually tied the match at 3-3.
It came down to court two where Maximilien Blancaneaux won the first set and fought until the end for the point, but was defeated by Sam Feit 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2 to give the Bulldogs the 4-3 win.
STANDOUTS
The opening weekend featured several highlights for the Broncos. Wyatt DeMulling shined on Friday in his match against Joaquin Espinoza (MSU) 6-0, 6-4, picking up where he left in the fall (9-7 in singles matches). New addition to the team Luka Soskic made a nice debut after defeating Drew Brown (MSU) 6-4, 7-5, Friday, and Bulldogs' Hunter Egger 6-2, 6-4, Sunday.
HEAD COACH KRISTIAN WIDEN
Boise State graduate and former all-conference performer for the Broncos, Kristian Widen is in his first season as head coach for the Broncos. Widen continues to build a strong, hard-working team and program.
