BOISE, Idaho - Wyatt DeMulling's singles victory on court four clinched the match for Boise State as the Broncos stormed past Lewis-Clark State 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise. Â The Broncos won the doubles point 2-0, then swept all six singles matches without dropping a set as the blue and orange improved to 2-1 overall.
"I was happy with the way the team played overall today, but we still have things we need to work on," said head coach Kristian Widen. "Before the match we talked about having to come out hard from the start and how important it is to get that doubles point and not getting behind early. That team point will be really important for us this year as we settle on a lineup. I thought Simon (Stenlund) did a good job after missing last week with illness. He was strong out there today and it was great to see him back in the lineup. As a team we need to focus on improving with each match, it starts again on Sunday when we host a good Idaho State team." Â
Maximilien Blancaneaux and DeMulling led the charge in doubles recording the first win on court three 6-1 over Roberto Salazar and Herman Yue. Stefan Lalovic and Luka Soskic wrapped up the team doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 position defeating LCSC's tandem of William Bruchard and Marcus Gavelin.Â
Up one heading into singles, the Broncos wasted little time in establishing control over the NAIA powerhouse LCSC Warriors from Lewiston, Idaho. Stenlund — seeing his first singles action of the spring — was the first off with a win over Salazar 6-0, 6-2 on court five. The win improved Stenlund to team-best 13-4 in singles matches on the year and 1-0 in spring duals.Â
Not long after Stenlund, Lalovic brought the Broncos within one point of clinching the victory when he downed Yue 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. He is now 5-2 overall in singles and 2-1 in spring duals. Â
The clinching singles win came on court four where DeMulling rolled to a straight-set victory 6-0, 6-1 over LCSC's Jackson Lee. The junior improved to 11-8 in singles on the year and 2-1 in team duals.
The match was played out in singles once the outcome was known. Jack Heslin was the fourth Bronco off the court at No. 1 singles where he defeated Alexandre D'Aboville in two sets 6-3, 6-4.
Simon Arca Costas was next recording a 6-2, 6-4 win on court three over Luca Menezes. Arca Costas moved to 14-7 in singles on the year and 3-0 in team duals.Â
The last man off was newcomer Luka Soskic who rallied from 3-0 down in set two with six-straight wins to claim the match in two sets 7-6(3), 6-3 over Bruchard. Soskic is now 3-0 as a Bronco since joining the team over winter break.Â
The Broncos return to action Sunday morning when they close the four-match homestand against instate-rival Idaho State at 11 a.m. in the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.Â
