Broncos Head to ITA Mountain Regional

Kyryll Kryvchun and Wyatt DeMulling enter the tournament seeded sixth and 15th, respectively, in singles, while Kryvchun and Blake Bayldon are seeded ninth in doubles.

- Boise State is sending six members of the men's tennis team to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Mountain Regional at Denver, Colo., this week.
- The tournament will take place on the campus of the University of Denver and run Wednesday through Sunday.
- This will be the Broncos first action since the Idaho State Fall Invitational (Oct. 4-6).
REPRESENTING THE BRONCOS IN SINGLES
- In singles, Boise State will represented by Wyatt DeMulling who enters the tournament at 4-2 overall, followed by Simon Arca Costas (4-1), Ryland McDermott (1-2), Blake Bayldon (3-3), Kyryll Kryvchun (5-1) and Kemal Karagozoglu (5-3).Â
- Senior Wyatt DeMulling is the most experienced player the Broncos have in 2019-20 and enters the regional seeded 15th. He went 3-1 at the Dar Walters Fall Classic, losing to teammate Kyryll Kryvchun.Â
- Arca Costas has also had a strong fall going 4-1 to date. He played along side DeMulling at the Dar Walters Fall Classic and went undefeated 4-0 in that pairs competition winning every match in straight sets.
- Newcomer Kryvchun has had a solid debut in the Blue and Orange going 5-1 overall and enters the regional seeded sixth. Kryvchun went undefeated (4-0) at the Dar Walters Fall Classic, then lost in his flight's championship match at the ISU Fall Invitational.Â
- Karagozoglu is another newcomer to the team, he won his flight's consolation title at the ISU Fall Invite and finished the tournament at 3-1.Â
THE DOUBLES LINEUP
- In doubles, the Boise State pairs will consist of Bayldon and Kryvchun (6-1), McDermott and Arca Costas (3-1), as well as DeMulling and Karagozoglu (2-2).Â
- Bayldon and Kryvchun — seeded ninth at the regional — have been the most successful doubles team for Boise State this fall sporting the best overall record, in addition to going undefeated (4-0) at the Dar Walters Fall Classic (Sept. 20-22). They also reached the semifinals of the ISU Fall Invitational (Oct. 4-6).
- McDermott and Arca Costas won the consolation championship at the ISU Fall Invitational. They regrouped after dropping their opener to win three straight to claim the title in Pocatello, Idaho.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
- The tournament is a double-elimination format with a main draw and a consolation draw.
TOURNAMENT FIELD
The ITA Mountain Region consist of 17 teams from six conferences. Schools eligible to compete by conference are:Â- Big Sky Conference - Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado and Weber State.
- Mountain West Conference - Air Force, Boise State, Nevada, New Mexico, UNLV and Utah State.
- Pacific-12 Conference -Â Utah.
- Summit League -Â Denver.
- West Coast Conference -Â BYU.
- Western Athletic Conference -Â New Mexico State.Â
COACH WIDEN
- Kristian Widen the second year head coach, former Bronco tennis player, and 1996 Boise State graduate was named head men's tennis coach on May 17, 2018.
- He begins his second season with an 11-10 overall record.
- He has been apart of seven conference championships at Boise State, three as a player and four as an assistant.
- Widen has more than 20 years of coaching experience at various levels, including time previously spent on staff at Boise State with both the men's and women's programs.
