
Haller Takes Second in 5k, Nine Advance to Finals

The day was not without adversity for the majority of the Broncos. A majority of Boise State's travel party spent Thursday in Las Vegas due to flight cancellations. After taking a bus to Phoenix, Ariz., the travel party took the first flight to Albuquerque, arriving hours before events began.

A member of that group, Kendra Noneman, kicked off the day with a display of grit. Noneman's first throw in the weight throw set a new personal best, and she didn't stop there. The junior finished seventh, her first time reaching the finals of the weight throw, establishing a new best mark of 59-11.75 (18.28m).
Miler Haller had the best performance at a Mountain West Championship in his career, taking second in the 5000m in 14:38.59. Freshman Yukino Parle was the top finisher in the event on the women's side, taking seventh in 17:37.84.
The Broncos were able to advance Bryce Kirby in both the men's 60m and 200m. The senior posted the second-fastest qualifying time in the shorter event (6.81), while running 21.96 in the 200m to advance to Saturday's final. He will be joined in the final by David Pierce, who ran a new indoor personal best by 3-tenths of a second in 21.76.

Jose Rubio was able to advance to the finals of the 400m, taking fifth in the prelims in a time of 49.62. He made the bold move of passing on the inside of the backstretch of the final lap, a move that paid off as he was able to finish second in his heat.
The redshirt freshman made it to the start line of the 400m after taking ninth in the long jump, leaping a personal best of 22-7.25 (6.89m). Ryan Cavinta also set a new personal best in the long jump at 21-11.50 (6.69m).

Cavinta also took ninth in the prelims of the 60m hurdles as the fastest non-qualifier (8.31).
In the women's mile, Allie Ostrander (4:54.09) and Alexis Fuller (4:54.26) paced each other to a 1-2 finish in their preliminary heat. They ran the second- and third-fastest times of the day to advance to tomorrow's final.

Andrew Rafla advanced to the final of the men's mile, taking eighth in the prelims with a time of 4:18.91.
Kristie Schoffield was the lone woman to advance to the final of the women's 800m. The sophomore cruised to a victory in the third heat, running 2:15.01.
The conference championships will conclude, Saturday. The men are currently in fifth place with 18 points, while the women are tied for sixth with 14 points.
