Broncos Come Up Short Against Aztecs

SAN DIEGO – Boise State couldn't find its rhythm in San Diego on Sunday afternoon, as San Diego State was able to log the 4-0 victory at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Broncos moved to 10-5 (0-2 MW) on the season with the result while the Aztecs improved to 9-7 (1-1 MW).
Doubles saw Wyatt DeMulling and Stefan Lalovic take on SDSU's Sander Andersen and Ignacio Martinez on court one where Anderson and Martinez were able to pull out the 6-2 win. The doubles point went to the Aztecs when Simon Stenlund and Luka Soskic came up short against Rafael Gonzalez and Armaid Restifo at the No. 3 spot, falling 6-1.
Jack Heslin and Simon Arca Costas has the 4-3 lead when their match on court two was stopped.
The home team made it a 2-0 lead when Anderson claimed the 6-1, 6-1 victory over Heslin on court one to open singles play.
After playing well but dropping their first sets, Arca Costas and DeMulling were both unable to force a third as both were beat in straight sets with Costas falling 6-3, 6-2 and DeMulling 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively. The two results sealed the 4-0 win for SDSU.
The Broncos were in position to take points on courts two and three before the match was stopped. Soskic led Fabian Roensdorf 6-3, 5-2 on court two while Max Blancaneaux had just gutted out a 7-6 (7-5) win in the first set against Jan Kirchoff and was tied 1-1 in the second set.
Stefan Lalovic was also playing well at No. 6 against the Aztecs' David Hough, as Hough had only a 7-5, 3-2 advantage.
The Broncos will return home and play their first Mountain West home matches of the spring season with a match against New Mexico on Friday, April 5 at 1 p.m. and another against Air Force on Sunday, April 7 at 11 a.m.
Weather permitting, both matches will be played outside at the Appleton Tennis Center.
