Nevada Edges Broncos in Reno
4/12/2019 8:57:00 PM | Men's Tennis
RENO, Nev. - Boise State men's tennis came up short on the road in Reno Friday afternoon as the Wolf Pack edged the Broncos 4-2. Boise State fell behind early dropping the team doubles point 2-0, then the first two singles matches before attempting to rally. Down 3-0, the Broncos recorded singles wins by Jack Heslin and Simon Arca Costas, but it was not enough as Nevada put it away with another win.
The contest began with doubles where Nevada claimed victories on courts one and three respectively.
Down one, Boise State needed to win four of the six singles matches to claim victory. Unfortunately, the Broncos found themselves in a big hole down 3-0 as the Wolf Pack took No. 3 and 1 singles to close within one of the four points needed.
Jack Heslin put the Broncos on the scoreboard when he defeated Jonathan Aremon on court four in three sets 7-5, 2-6, 6-1, that made it 3-1 Wolf Pack.
Arca Costas brought Boise State within 3-2 when he dispatched Kostya Nesterenko in a long two-set match at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-4. The win improved the freshman's singles record to a team-best 24-10 overall and 13-3 this spring.
Unfortunately, that was all the Broncos could muster as Nevada held on for the team victory with a three-set win at No. 6 singles to clinch the match.
The loss dropped Boise State to 11-7 overall and 1-4 in conference, while Nevada improved to 9-8 and 2-3. The Broncos will be back in action when they conclude this week's road trip at San Diego State Sunday afternoon.
